September 2011 Construction Starts
I will build six models in 2011. At the end of May, 2010 I have accepted four commissions for 2011, so I have two spaces open and my next available start date is approximately September 1, 2011. Because that is more than a year away, I won't be accepting any new commissions until after September 1, 2010. Nevertheless, If you are interested in having a model built, please contact me and let me know what you are interested in. I will get back to you as soon as possible with a quote. My contact information is at the bottom of this page. After I accept the next two commissions I won't be accepting any new commissions until early 2011 (for 2012 starts) because I don't like to be booked that far in advance.
Are you thinking of getting a half model of your boat? Do you want something more than a model showing the generic hull shape of the brand and model of boat you own? If you want a distinctive, hand crafted, one-of-a-kind model that shows the personal characteristics of your boat, then I would love to build you a model. While I build simple half hull models, the models I prefer to build include the cabin house, cockpit and the details that make your boat special to you. I build from pictures of your boat, so you don't just get a model of a generic yacht. Every detail is hand crafted in my shop from the same materials you find on your boat (aluminum, bronze, stainless steel, teak, mahogany, etc.). I finish the on-deck wood to yacht standards using the same finishes (varnish, Cetol, oil) you have on your boat. The model is mounted on your choice of hardwoods finished the way you specify.
I build the models by the plank on frame method because I think it gives a more accurate hull shape. Every model is a hand crafted, custom made original creation. Each model is numbered signed and dated. There are no molds involved and all parts are hand crafted by me. I build from the original drawings and plans when they are available. When I can't get the plans, I draw a set of lines from pictures of your boat. Once I have the lines I scale them to the size you want your model to be. I am happy to build your model any size you want.
During construction of your model I send you frequent e-mail updates that include pictures of my progress. I also post the progress of the construction on my Model Building Now Web Page, unless you prefer that I keep your model private. This lets you participate in the construction of the model. I encourage comments so that I get things right.
