Flower Class Corvette Simple
Half Model
This model is a simple half hull of the Canadian Flower Class
Corvette HMCS Drumheller, K167. The model is built at the 1/96th
scale so that 1" = 8'. At this scale the model of the 205' ship is
25-5/8" long. The ship was of riveted steel plate construction. Consequently,
after I built the hull from balsa and fiberglassed it, I cut out more than
100 scale plates and glued them up in the same pattern used for the ship.
The model is painted in western approach camouflage colors based on pictures
of HMCS Drumheller during her WWII Atlantic convoy duty. The model
is bult to show the configuration of the ship after her forecastle deck
was extended.

Here is the finished model. A noteworthy feature
is the color sublimated brass nameplate with Drumheller's turret art.
This model was built as a gift for one of HMCS Drumheller's World War II
officers. Because his eyesight is a bit weak, I made the hull number
a somewhat oversize so that he can easily read it. The model is mounted
on a cherry board finished in satin varnish.
