Construction Details

June 21, 09 - Earlier this week I finished drawing and scaling the lines for this model.  Two days ago I cut out the backplane and laminated it with a layer of fiberglass cloth set in epoxy.  Today I made up the station molds, glued them and the deck to the backplane, planked the model down to the waterline.  Because this model is being built for direct mounting, the rudder is attached to the model in contrast to my normal practice which is to build a separate rudder.  Over the next few days I will cut the transom in and finish planking the conoe body.  After that I will build the keel and shape the rudder.

June 23, 09 - I have now finished buulding the model.  Over the next 2-3 days I will fiberglass the model and then cut the steps into the transom.

June 30, 09 - I have now finished fiberglassing the model.  The next step is to cut the steps into the transom.

July 4, 09 - Today I finished filling and fairing the hull after I cut the transom steps into the transom.  I will now start painting the model.

July 6, 09 - As you can see I have now put a coat of white primer on the bottom and two coats of dark blue topsides paint on the topsides.  Tomorrow I will spot fill a few minor imperfections and then continue painting the model.  I expect to need to put two more coats of paint on the topsides and a final coat of paint on the bottom.  When the model is painted, I will put the boot and cove stripes on.
