Construction Details

April 4, 09 - I got started on this model on April 1.  Since then I have cut out the station molds, glued them to the backplane, installed the deck and put the sheer and waterline planks on.  I will finish planking the model over the next few days.

April 6, 09 - I have now finished planking the hull down to the waterline.  This week I will finish planking the hull and then put a layer of fiberglass on it for strength.

April 13, 09 - Since my last update I have finished planking and fiberglassing the the hull.  Although it doesn't show in this picture, I have also put the first coat of filling/fairing compound on the deck.  After I took the picture I sanded that first fairing compound off the deck and applied a coat of compound to the entire model.  I normally apply and sand off three costs of fairing compound before I start painting.

April 18, 09 - I have now finished painting the topsides.  Today I will put the boot stripe on and I expect to paint the bottom on Monday or Tuesday.  After that I only have to make up the hawse pipe and the rub rail and this model will be finished.  The picture above shows the model after the final coat of topsides paintwas applied, but before it was buffed out.
