This model is a simple half hull model of a Santana 22 built in Teak.  The model is finished bright (i.e., varnished).  The model is being built at a scale of 1"=1' and is 22" long.  It is mounted on a satin varnished mahogany board.

Construction Details

June 10, 08 -  Yesterday I finished scaling the lines and then cut out and laminated the back plane for the model.  Today I cut out the station molds and started planking the hull.  This picture shows the model with the deck, sheer and waterline planks on.  I made an error on the keel and will remove the arced trailing edge before I continue.

June 20, 08 - Today I finished planking this model.  After I took this picture I put the first of two coats of epoxy on the hull.  The epoxy serves two purposes.  First, it glues the planks firmly together.  Second, it fills small gaps between the planks.  After I put the second coat of epoxy on the model and sand it fair, I will start varnishing the model.  I expect that to take about two to three weeks before I get an acceptable finish.

July 4, 08 - I now have 6 coats of varnish on the model.  It looks like I have a bout 3-4 more coats of varnish to go before I can paint the boot stripe and then put the final coat of varnish on.  The mahogany mounting board needs two more coats of varnish on the front and one on the back to finish it off.
