This model is a simple half hull model of a J/80.
The model is scaled to be 18.6" long to match the scale on another model
the client has of his J/24 The model is mounted on a satin varnished
cherry board with a chamfer on the edge of the board painted flat black
. The model includes a custom two color name graphic on the hull.
Construction Details
March 4, 08 - I started work on the cherry mounting board for this model several weeks ago, so it is now finished. Yesterday I finished scaling the lines and then cut out and laminated the back plane for the model. Today I cut out the station molds and started planking the hull. I will finish planking the hull tomorrow and Thursday.
March 6, 08 - Today I finished planking the hull and buiot the keel. After I took this picture I put a layer of fiberglass on the deck. Tomorrow I will fiberglass the hull. I expect to finish fiberglassing the model over the weekend, after which I will befin filling and fairing the hull inpreparation for painting.
March 14, 08 - This model is almost finished. Since my last update I have fiberglassed, filled and faired and painted the hull. Today I put the hull graphics on and mounted the model. The only things that remain are the rudder, which will be finished tomorrow and the nameplate, which has been ordered.
