This model is a 1/2"=1' scale detailed half model of an Island Packet 485 center cockpit yacht. The model was built for Island Packet Yachts from plans they provided. The model is mounted on a satin varnished cherry board.
Here is the completed model. The next three pictures show closer pictures of the details.
This aft detail picture shows one of the dorade vents with its cowl and guard rail well. The traveller and main boom sheet setup is also well shown. You can also see the unique way Island Packet attaches what would otherwise be a spade rudder to the aft end of the keel.
Here is the midships detail. You can see the cowl vents with their guards, the pedestal and wheel and the mast, boom and vang and their rigging.
This picture shows the forward detail. Of interest
are the Hoyt jib boom and its sheet and the Island Packet anchor roller.
Construction Details
March 5, 08 - Yesterday I finished scaling the lines and then cut out and laminated the back plane for the model. Today I cut out the station molds and started planking the hull. I will finish planking the hull tomorrow over the weekend.

March 6, 08 - Today I finished planking the model down to the waterline. Tomorrow I will build the transom and start planking below the waterline.

March 17, 08 - Since my last update I have finished planking the hull. I have also built the transom and fiberglassed the hull. The next step is to start filling and fairing the hull and to build the cambered deck and bulwark.

March 17, 08 (cont) - This picture shows the sugar scoop transom with its boarding steps.

March 21, 08 - I have now built the cambered deck and the bulwark. In addition I have finished filling and fairing the hull and have put on the first coats of primer paint. The next step will be to build the cabin house and cockpit.

March 26, 08 - Since my last update I have built the cabin house and cockpit. I still have a dorade box to build on the aft end of the house. After that is done I will fill the seams and junctions on the house and between the house and the deck and then start painting the model.

March 27, 08 - The picture above shows the nearly completed cabin house and cocopit. After I took this picture I completed the companionway storm hod and the instrument enclosure above it and then painted the topsides, deck and cabin house with the base Island Packet ivory color. I will let that paint cure for a couple of days before I install the rub rail and then paint the non-skid and boot stripe.

March 30, 08 - I have now finished the major construction phase of the model. Since my last update I have installed the rub rail and bow sprit and put two coats of the final hull and deck color on the model. The next steps will be to paint the boot stripe, bottom and on-deck non-skid areas. when that is done, I will start detailing the model.
April 14, 08 - I have now painted the bottom and boot stripe and put the chrome strip on the rub rail.
May 25, 08 - I set this model aside while I finished two models that were ahead of it on my schedule. I am now back to working it as my first priority. Since my last update I have installed the teak cap rail on the bulwark, installed the ports and put the hand rails on. I have also painted the non-skid areas on the deck, cabin top and in the cockpit. The next step is to start machining winches and other detail components.

May 30, 08 - I have now finished putting all the teak on the model. The additions include the eyebrow, the companionway boards and trim and the various step pads on the cabin house. I have also installed the rudder and heel strap. Finally I have built the mast and boom and am working on the vang. Over the weekend I will finish the traveller, vang and other boom and mast rigging. After that I will build and install the winches and hatches.

June 2, 08 - I have now finished rigging the main boom. I have also installed the stay sail boom and its rigging and put the cowl vents on. At this point, my list of items to complete is down to 18, so the model should be completed this week.
June 6, 08 - This week I
have been working on details. I also repainted the non-skid areas
to darken the color a couple of shades. The main details I have added
include the winches, the cowl vent guards and the rail at the mast, the
chain plates and the anchor roller. Over the weekend I will build
the pedestal and wheel and the hatches.
