Construction Details

October 6, 08 - Yesterday I cut out the backplane for this model and laminated ith with fiberglass set in epoxy.  Because this model will be mounted directly to a wall without a mounting board, I drilled two holes for mounting screws in spots where I had reinforced the backplane.  Today I put the station frames, deck, sheer and waterline planks on the model.  I made an error on frame 10 (above the rudder), which will be repaired before I finish planking the hull.

Ocrober 7, 08 - I have now repaired the error on station 10 and planked the model down to the waterline.

October 13, 08 - I have now finished planking the hull.  Over the next week or so I will fiberglass the hull and thn start filling and fairing in preparation for painting.

October 27, 08 - I have now finished fiberglassing, filling and fairing the hull.  The picture above shows the model with the first coat of primer below the waterline and the first coat of topsides paint above the waterline.  The next step is to spot fill a few imperfections and then repaint the model.  I have also made up the teak toe rail and have started varnishing it.

Nov. 3, 08 - I have now finished the primary painting of the model.  I will buff the topsides paint one more time, then put the boot and cove stripes on.  After that is done, I will put the varnished teak toe rail on and the model will be finished.
