Construction Details
This is a picture of the boat I will be modelling.
This model is a 22" long detailed half model of a Discovery 55. The model was built from the designer's drawings which Ron Holland Design (http://www.ronhollanddesign.com/) provided. The model is mounted on satin varnished cherry.

Construction Details
This is a picture of the boat I will be modelling.
May 6, 08 - This picture shows the model with its station molds and a sacrificial deck in place. I have also installed the sheer and waterline planks. I will finish planking the hull this week.
May 25, 08 - Since my last update I have finished planking the hull and have cut the transom in. After I took this picture I started fiberglassing the hull. That normally takes 2-3 days.
May 30, 08 - I have now finished fiberglassing the model. I also built in all the transom details. After I took this picture I put the first coat of fairing compound on the hull. I will finish filling and fairing the hull over the weekend and then move on to building the deck and cabin house.
June 6, 08 - I have now finished filling, fairing and priming the hull. After I took this picture, I put the first coat of flag blue on the topsides.
June 10, 08 - I have now started building coats of flag blue paint on the topsides. I have also gone back and spot filled a few pin holes below the waterline.
June 21, 08 - Since my last update I have more or less finished building thickness on the topsides paint. I have also almost finished building the cabin house and cockpit. This boat has a rather complex cabin house. In particular, I have had to make provisions for laying the teak decking which is flush with the fiberglass rather than on top of it as is more common. I should finish building the cabin house within the next couple of days. The cabin top, the winch plinths and a couple of hatch bases remain to be built. When that is done I will paint the house and cockpit and then start laying the teak decking.
July 13, 08 - Major construction on this model is now finished including the teak decking.
Aug. 4, 08 - I have now finished painting the model and am varnishing the toe rail. In addition I have made up the cherry mounting board and am about 40% of the way through varnishing it. When I finish varnishing the mounting board I will mount the model and start detailing.
Aug. 11, 08 - I have now built the mast and boom. Over the next few days I will build the vang and add details to the mast.
Aug. 19, 08 - Since my last update I have built the vang, main sheet tackle and traveller. I also built the rest of the deck hatches.
Sept. 2, 08 - The model is now almost finished. You can see the folded Gori three blade prop, the pedestal and wheel, the winches and other details on the mast. I have also added the cleats on the toe rail.
