Sept. 17, 07 - Today I cut out the station molds and attached them to the backplane I laminated over the weekend. After that I put the deck, sheer and waterline planks on the model. I will finish planking the hull over the next week or so.
Oct. 1, 07 - Today I finished planking the hull. The next step is to fiberglass it.
Oct. 15, 07 - The hull has now been fiberglassed and I have started the fairing process. Fairing normally involves 3-4 applications of fairing compound, which are sanded off. when the surface is fair, I primer paint the model.
Oct. 31, 07 - I have now finished the major fairing and have put the first coats of primer paint on the model. I have also chamfered the edges of the mounting board and will start varnishing it today. Later today I will spot fair imperfections on the model and then reprime. I will repeat that process until I am satisfied with the surfaces. After that I will start topcoating the model with the final colors.
Nov. 15, 07 - I haven't been working on this model much since my last update. However, I have started painting the hull. I also cut the sugar scoop into the transom and installed the spinnaker pole mount. Finally I have started building the cabin house and cockpit, which I will finish over the next few days.
Nov. 20, 07 - I have now built the cabin house and cockpit. The next step is to face the house and cockpit with styrene. After that I will finishe painting the model.
Dec. 1, 07 - Since my last update I finished off the model ahead this one on my schedule. This model is now at the top of my priority list. Yesterday I finished facing the cabin house and cockpit and then primer painted the deck, house and cockpit. The picture, taken this morning, shows the model just before I painted the topsides, deck, house and cockpit. Over the next few days I will finish painting this model. When that is done I will mount it on the mounting board and start installing detail components.
Dec. 15, 07 - For the past two weeks I have been painting, sanding and repainting this model. Last night I finally sprayed the final coat of paint on the model. Today I pulled the masking tape and mounted the model on the satin varnished mahogany board. After that I installed the name graphic on the hull. As you can see, the bottom is black, the boot stripe is flag blue (it just looks black in artificial light), the cabin house is white and the non-skid is light gray. Tomorrow I will install the ports and the cove stripe and start work on the mast and boom.
Dec. 18, 07 - The cove stripe, ports mast and boom are now finished. Today I made the vang. I will install it tomorrow when the paint is dry. After that I will put the tacke on the vang and build the main sheet and traveler.
Dec. 24, 07 - Since my last update I have built the boom vang and its tackle. I have also machined and installed the winches and made up the stainless steel handrail on the cabin top. Over the next couple of days I will build the main sheet and traveler and also the pedestal and wheel.
Dec. 30, 07 - I have now finished the cabin top by building and installing the hatches and the 4 place line stopper adjacent to the cabin top Winch. I have also built the traveller and installed it and the main sheet. This weekend I finished the pedestal and wheel and put the genoa and toe rail tracks on the deck. At this point my to-do list only has about 10 things left on it, so this model will be finished sometime this coming week.
