Hinckley Bermuda 40 Custom (1/2"=1' Scale)

This model is a Hinckley Bermuda 40 Custom half hull with teak toe rail and Hinckley bow and midships chocks.  The model was built to the original William Tripp, Sr. Lines at a scale of 1/2"=1' and is just over 20" long.  The model will not have a mounting board since it will be mounted directly on a bulkhead on the boat.

Documentation of the Construction Process

Jan. 20, 07 - Last night I cut out and laminated the backplane for this model.  This morning I attached the station frames and deck and planked the model down to the waterline.  After I took this picture I put a layer of fiberglass on the transom.

Jan. 22, 07 - Today I finished planking the model down to the waterline and started fiberglassing it.  The picture shows the fully planked model sitting on the mahogany mounting board for the other Bermuda 40 model I am building.  Note the teak waterline inlay on the mounting board.

Jan. 24, 07 - I have now nearly finished fiberglassing this model.  After I took this picture I put the last fiberglass on the bottom of the keel and the leading edge of the bow.  I also put an additional coat of epoxy on the back of the model to make sure it is completely sealed.  I will start the filling/fairing process tomorrow.

Jan. 27, 07 - I have now finished the major filling and fairing and have put the first coat of primer paint on the model.  After I took this picture I spot filled the hull and started repriming it.  Tomorrow I will finish repriming and start putting the topsides finish on.

Jan. 29, 07 - Last night I put the first coat of green paint on the topsides.  I tinted the paint by mixing in about 1% black, but it will have to be much darker to match what is on the actual boat.  Tomorrow I will repaint the topsides and also cut in the prop aperture.
