Documentation of the Construction Process

This model is a Sabre 30 MKIII shoal draft sloop built to an overall length of 24".  The finished model will be painted to match the actual boat (white topsieds, navy blue boot and cove stripes and a red bottom).  The model will also have a varnished teak toe rail.  It will be mounted on a satin varnished mahogany board.

March 19, 06 - I actually cut out and laminated the backplane for this model a few days ago.  I wasn't planning to start this model until around April 1, but I found myself with some free time while I waited for paint to cure on other models so I got started.  Yesterday I cut out the station frames and glued the deck, sheer and waterline planks onto the model.  This morning I planked the model down to the waterline.  Tomorrow I will finish planking the hull and keel and start fiberglassing the model.

March 21, 06 - Yesterday I finished planking the hull for this model.  I still have to build the keel, but will do that tomorrow.

March 31, 06 - I haven't been putting much time in on this model lately, but I have now built the keel and fiberglassed the hull.  Over the next few days I will fill and fair the surfaces to get them ready for painting.

April 4, 06 - Since my last update I have applied and sanded off three coats of fairing compound.  Today I put the first coats of primer on the model.  Tomorrow I will start spot filling and repriming the model.  I expect to be able to start painting the model by next Monday.

April 8, 06 - Yesterday I put the first coat of finish paint on the topsides.  Today I cut out and edged the mahogany mounting board shown in the picture.  I will start varnishing that board later today.  Monday I will sand the topsides out and put what I hope will be the final coat of topsides paint onto the model.

April 16, 06 - Since my last update I have finished the model except for painting the bottom, installing the teak toe rail and finishing the varnishing of the mounting board.  All those things will be done by this coming Friday, April 21.
