Allied Princess 36 Detailed Half Model - 1/2" = 1'

This is a model of my Allied Princess 36.  The model was built at my wife's request.  It was built from a copy of the original lines drawing I got from the designer Arthur Edmunds and from many pictures and measurements from my Princess.  This model took a long time because I worked on it between models for customers.

Dec 27, 05 - This is the finished model.  You can see the Lofrans Royal windlass and my Danforth plow anchor.  Aft you can see the variety of winches on the boat (Lewmar 16 on the cabin top, Barient 22SS primary and Anderson 12ST for the furling line.  You can also see the distinctive aluminum extrusion over the hull/deck joint.

Construction Pictures

The model is now filled and faired.  After I prime the bottom I will start work on the deck, cockpit and cabin house.

While I have been waiting for paint and fairing compound to dry/cure on the Morgan 42 and Bristol 45.5 models I am building now, I have taken some time to build the cabin house, cockpit and bulwark for the model of My Allied Princess 36.  After a small amount of fairing, the next step will be to prime and paint this model.

Since my last update I have painted the topsides, deck and cabin house.  I have also finished filling, fairing and priming the bottom.  The model is sitting on the mounting board for another model because I haven't built the cherry board for this model yet.  Later today I will paint the blue boot and cove stripes.  The next step after that will be to paint the light blue non-skid on the deck, cabin house top and cockpit.  When that is finished I will start building and adding details.

The boot and cove stripes are now on the model.  The next step is to paint the non-skid on the deck, in the cockpit and on the cabin top pale blue.  When that is done I will start adding details.

It has been a while since I updated this model.  As you can and can't see, I have painted the pale blue non-skid on the deck, cabin top and in the cockpit.  I used the same interlux brightsides paint I used on the real boat.  I have also built and installed the two deadlights and the three port lights.  I have machined the barient 22 stainless steel primary winch, but won't be installing it until I finish varnishing the teak mounting block.  Over the next few days I will build the other winches, the hatch and the companionway and start adding those details to the model.  In this picture the model is sitting on the laminated cherry mounting board that is about half way through varnishing.

Wow, it has been over a month since I have updated this model.  Over the last month I have finished varnishing the mounting board except for the final sprayed coat.  I have also finished varnishing and installing most of the teak.  In this picture you can see the toe rail, cockpit coaming, winch base with the stainless Barient 22 winch in place and the trim on the companionway.  I have also installed the companionway boards.  I am now varnishing the rest of the teak (cabin top hand rails, companionway slide handle and a trim ring on the wheel.  The next step will be to cut out the propeller aperture, paint the bottom and then mount the model.  After I do that I will start making and installing other detail parts (wheel, windlass and anchor, hatch, cowl vents, cleats, masts, etc.).

Yesterday I painted the bottom of the model.  I will mount the model on the board after I put the aluminum cap on the hull/deck joint.

Dec 5, 05 - It took six months, but I finally got back to this model a few days ago.  Since my last update I have put the aluminum cap on the hull/deck joint, installed the bow iron and anchor roller, a couple of cleats, the cabin top winch, the companionway slide and the wheel (not visible, but it is in the cockpit).  I also finished varnishing the mounting board and mounted the model.  Over the next few days I will install the masts, the forward hatch, the genoa track and fairlead block, the Andersen 12ST winch, the windlass and anchor and two more cleats.  My goal is to finish this model over the next 10 days.

Dec. 7, 05 - Yesterday and today I have been building details for this model (and the Swan 57 I am also working on).  Since my last update I have added the genoa track and genoa fairlead block, the masts, the cabin top hand rail, a couple of cleats and the prop and shaft.  Tomorrow I think I will build the forward hatch and maybe the anchor.

Dec. 7, 05 (cont.) - This picture shows a bit of the detail more closely.  Here you can actually see the wheel for the Edson worm gear steering, the genoa track and fairlead block as well as the cleats I have added.  You can also see the companionway with its three drop boards.  At this point, my final list only has 7 items left on it.
